The field of corrections has evolved considerably in the last few decades and that evolution points toward the adoption and expansion of evidence-based practices (EBPs) regardless of whether we are focused on and working in community-based corrections or institutional corrections. But moving toward the successful adoption and implementation of EBPs is often anything but straightforward: leaders and staff must not only learn and practice EBPs but must also contend with the forces of organizational culture, politics, and critically the realities of having enough funds, staff, and support to enact those practices. It is no small effort or commitment to bring EBPs to your agency and people...
So how is it best to proceed when facing these challenges? In our experience, these types of initiatives are made easier and more successful when leadership and staff are assisted and supported by those who've done this work before. Whether you are looking to get started with new EBPs like risk assessment, have already begun to implement EBPs and are encountering obstacles in that process, or even need to address ongoing challenges with your existing practices that have been used for some time, we are here to provide that assistance and support. See below for more specifics about the ways in which we can work with you and your team!
Our familiarity with EBP principles and tools (like risk assessment instruments and case management) can provide helpful guidance in this process. In addition, we can assist with the creation of plans and scheduling to implement the tools your agency needs.
Implementation can be a difficult process but having a formal plan and team in place can make all the difference. Miller and Micek is here to assist with developing implementation plans, create implementation teams, and guide you through this process.
Training for EBPs often focuses on delivering content and teaching the "how-to"... but without a culture that supports these practices, they often fail. Our team can help identify organizational culture barriers and devise ways to overcome those barriers.
